Shahid Kapoor has carved a special place for himself in Bollywood that no other actor could breach. The son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor, Shahid never took the support of his father to march forward in the industry. The actor has had quite a few ups and downs in his career but never was his acting talent in question. With the stupendous success of Kabir Singh at the box office, Shahid is at the top of his game.
Shahid Kapoor Bio:
Born on 25 February 1981 in New Delhi to actors Pankaj Kapoor and Neelima Azeem, Shahid went to Gyan Bharati School in Delhi and Rajhans Vidyalaya in Mumbai. Later he attended Mithibai College in Mumbai. He enrolled himself at the Shamak Davar’s institute which helped him to be a background dancer for Karisma Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai in Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Taal respectively. He also appeared in a TV commercial alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. Before making his foray into the industry, he was the assistant director on one of his father’s TV series.
Shahid Kapoor Career:
It was in 2003 that another Kapoor had hit the box office and this time it was Shahid. He made his debut with Ken Ghosh’s college romance Ishq Vishk for which he received the debut award at the Filmfare. But, it wasn’t until Sooraj Barjatya’s 2006 heartfelt romance Vivah that he became a sensation. His pairing with Amrita Rao was the talk of the town and so was the movie. The movie has gained a cult sort of status for the TV-watching audience.
Shahid was dating Kareena Kapoor at the time. The duo had appeared in multiple movies together but their off-screen chemistry never translated on-screen. It wasn’t until their break-up and Imitiaz Ali’s blockbuster Jab We Met that the ex-couple then delivered a successful film. The film still is Kareena Kapoor’s best. It was for the first time that Shahid received the Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare.
Filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj should be solely and wholly credited for changing the romantic hero image that had stuck with Shahid. Bharadwaj made Kapoor his muse and gave him films that went on to change his career and carve a different niche for him in the industry. Kaminey and Haider were some of his best works. His performance in Udta Punjab and the recently released Kabir Singh were second to none.
